Congratulations! You have officially signed up for your in-person field trip to Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. Please complete the following steps to ensure your attendance:

How to Prepare for Your Field Trip:

Book Your Pre-Visit. BOOK YOUR VIRTUAL PRE-VISIT HERE. Please schedule this two weeks prior to your field trip. All participating teachers will need to attend this with their classes. All students and teachers are required to participate, as it will provide information relating to the ‘day of’ logistics, safety, and site information. If a second date/time is needed to accommodate all classes, please keep the booking contact the same so we know you’re all together.
Order your bus. Please make arrangements early for your trip. Is your school Title 1 in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties or experiencing economic hardships? Apply for our TRANSPORTATION ACCESS PROGRAM HERE. Selected schools will receive funding that covers up to $650 per bus. Funding is not guaranteed and will be offered on a lottery system.
Organize Students & Chaperones. Before arriving at the park, please organize all participating students into three groups, as there will be three rotations for the day. Each group should have roughly the same number of students and at least one adult.
Prepare Students. Ensure students are prepared to walk one mile in the sun.

Sun Protection. There is minimal shade – make sure students have hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.
Comfortable Shoes. Students need comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Remind students they will be walking on a dirt path - they should wear shoes they are okay with getting dirty or muddy.
Water bottles. Please ensure that students are well-hydrated even before the field trip begins. Each student should bring a water bottle, and chaperones should bring extra water. We also have a water fountain for refills.
Layered Clothes. Baldwin Hills can have extreme temperature changes. Instruct students to wear comfortable clothes with layers to adjust for cold or heat, based on the weather report for your field trip day.
Snack & Lunch. Students will have the opportunity to eat a snack upon arrival to tide them over for lunch. We will provide time for a brief nutrition and bathroom break before starting our field trip rotations.

Prepare Chaperones. Chaperones are expected to be active participants during the field trip. Chaperones should help with behavior management and should not be on their phones.
Inform Us of Your Needs. If there are students with medical concerns or who are differently abled, please let us know. Please also inform us of any language barriers

What to expect on arrival:

Address: 6300 Hetzler Rd. Culver City, CA 90232. Please visit this Google Maps Link to see the exact meeting point. The bus driver should drive to the TOP of the hill. Please use the map below and see the picture of where we are meeting.
When you arrive at the top, our State Park interpreters will be there to greet you at the roundabout. At this point, students will exit the bus to our Visitor Center Amphitheater to eat a quick snack and use the restrooms. Chaperones r staff should unload the lunches from the bus and place them in our visitor center. Once fully unloaded, the bus will park.
Staff will provide an introduction to the park and our expectations. We will then have kids get into their smaller groups with their chaperones to participate in the activities.

What to expect during your field trip:

Staff will lead groups of students and their chaperones through three stations: a nature walk, animal adaptations presentation, and habitat fragmentation game.
After the rotations, we will all rejoin for lunch. If there is time, groups will be escorted into the visitor center to check out the displays.
Ten minutes before departure, students will be asked to pack up lunches and clean up trash. Please make sure staff and chaperones are helping pick up anything left behind.

Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns at [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you soon!
